Joby how is the 4x5 coming along?

I am still pretty slow to set up a shot. I have been traveling the past few weeks and was not able to take it with me. I have developed only 8 exposures so far. One appears to have suffered the white death of leaving the lens open by accident when I opened the dark slide. Otherwise exposures look reasonable and very few other mistakes were made. I have been shooting some Delta 100, HP5, and most recently Portra 400.

Probably just because the film is underexposed.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one! When I was starting with 4x5 it seemed like an impossible mission just to NOT screw up. Double exposures, pulling the darkslide with the lens open, empty film holders, mis-loaded film holders, etc.

Are you using the zone system?

Here are a couple from my Korona 5x7 (4x5 back) with the Caltar 150mm f/5.6 shot on HP5+ and processed with 1+50 Rodinal for 11 min at 68F using the taco method in a Patterson 4 tank.

Just learning how to use the zone system. I am metering with my DSLR or my Pentax 645N.
I read a lot before making my first exposure. I also used some Fuji instant film for instant feedback in the beginning. So far I have only left the lens open, let a light leak in by bumping the instant back, and scratched the film during loading/unloading. I am sure I will do everything you described at least once as I increase use.

I've got 3 rolls of HP5 might shoot the first at 400, second at 100, and third at 3200

3200 on 35mm might be a bit too grainy though

Also, I'm after a Mamiya 6 and 75mm + 50mm and possibly 150mm
In Australia or overseas and willing to post.

Cheers

I've been doing that as well, works well enough. The zone system really helped me in getting exactly what I wanted on the negative.

From earlier today. Only about a 3 stop dynamic range (minus the sky), so I reduced exposure and increased development from 8 minutes to 10:30 in order to increase the contrast and sense of texture.
