As soon as I can buy one I will be .

In the meantime, let me introduce you to my Elan 7E...

while i haven't use that model camera, Nikon/Nikkors all work basically the same.
a) there has to be a lens release on the front left of the camera to push to release the lens
b) the pin on back of the lens enables the black pin to work on the exposure by adjusting the aperture when you turn the ring.

there's also a little button on the diaphram next to the pin. You can press the button down, then manually flip up the pin. its really tiny, so look carefully.

once you get the lens off, turn it around and there's a little level sticking out.
push it down and you should see the aperture reduce to its smallest size. Release it and it should return to its widest aperture. If it wont go past f/11, the its probably jammed. (putting it on the camera wont make it go to 1.4.)

hope that helps... by the by... is this the model you're using or the second?

I'm an Nikon FE user for about 20 years... i've used several types of lenses, but still have my Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AiS manul focus.

I'm using the FT. thanks for the info.

the problem was that when trying to take off the lens, the silver thing wouldn't clear the top of the prism (i think i said that right), i had to unscrew the plate that said nikkormat and then take off the lens. it was just jammed.

and for the aperture, the previous owner didn't know that the lens has to be put on @ f/5.6 or something or else it jams up.

resolved here

It's smaller, yeah, but the ruggedness/faster AF attracts me to the 3.

...the bold is still annoying.

my Canon fell out of my hip bag.

Got a lot of scuff marks now and the whole focusing screen getup fell out. Hopefully a quick trip to my local camera shop tomorrow will fix this..

I have lusted for the 3, but I do have the Elan IIe. Meanwhile, I haven't shot it in quite a while. I hope it still works.

You and me both :(. I'm neglecting my work at the moment to process some old shots. Still, not quite what I wish I could be doing ?!.

I keep drifting between "I WANT IT" and "why do I want a new camera if I don't shoot enough as it is?"

Never-ending cycle...
