So I'm leaving for Beijing on Thursday for 10 days. Here's what I plan to take:

Gripped Rebel Xsi, kit lens, 55-250, nifty fifty, 2 4GB Cards and an 8GB card all packed in a lowepro flipside 300.

Is there anything else you would suggest I bring? I plan to go to all the major sites-great wall, forbidden city, etc. Any shooting tips? Any other places/camera shops that you guys would recommend? Also, I hear that it is very humid there, is there anything I should do to keep my camera protected from moisture?

Not very humid. I am in Beijing right now. The weather is nice! I take around 100 pictures every day, and all I use is my kit lens. I wish I had a tripod, but there was no room to carry it with me to China. This is my thread...

Yeah I saw your post earlier I'll be sure to check out your blog. Did you have any problems transitioning from inside to outside. I don't know how dslrs are but I had a point and shoot that would fog up everytime I took it outside.

In my opinion, Beijing (and all of China) is/are a photographers paradise. Unfortunately my luggage, camera and un-developed films from a month long trip in China got lost by the Airline(s). Consider sharing some pictures with us. Bon yoyage!

Do you have a lightweight tripod? It'll come in handy.

Get a Hyperdrive style backup harddrive, you'll be surprised how quickly you fill the cards. Even if you have enough card space, it'll serve as a backup for the photos.

Get UV filters for the lenses if you don't have them. China is very hazy with terrible air pollution and the filter will cut through some of it. It'll also protect the lens.

I'd also recommend a Speedlite for indoors and late at night, to do fill flash, etc.

I'm heading off to China in August, but I've been there previously. Stuck with my Tamron 17-50 and really didn't feel the need to use anything else. One thing that I highly recommend is a circular polarizer, especially in the summer. Get one that fits your largest lens and buy step down rings for the rest.

I wish I could get a speedlight, but I don't have the money right now :(
All of my lenses have UVs, And I will look into getting a circular polarizer, any brand suggestions?

Aubiecat - lol, I'll be sure to pack one in my suitcase!

There are occasions where a 10-22 lens will come in handy. Are you shooting RAW+JPEG? If so, you may want to bring more memory cards. I was in China last year and took about 100 images per day.

Will one of the local camera shops rent you a light? It's a good idea to have one, not just in the evening, but for fill flash, indoor shots.

Oh yeah, I never thought about renting! I will look into that.

I usually don't shoot raw and I am bringing my macbook pro to upload images at the end of each day.
