Hi All

The last time I photographed cricket was two years, I have been promising myself to have another go since then. Well got out and did so yesterday afternoon.

Was nice to get some good images!

#6 is my favourite. I blur on the bat and ball creates the motion of the action especially since you froze the batter.

Where was the match? Doesn't look like a county match?

Thanks, yes #6 turned out nicely. I have way too many images where I missed the decisive moment and the ball is nowhere to be seen i.e. batsmen and fielder 'action' and directions of looking at the ball but the ball is already out of hsot or obscured by a fielder !

Location - the 'ground' is actually a civic area called Stoke Park that is I understand maintained by the local authority and the club is called Guildford City Cricket Club (for the record Guildford does not have city status yet (?) ) so the area is like a massive village green and unlike many such places this 'park' is only flat in places and runs to many 10's of acres in total.

What equipment are you using? For me, they're a bit "loose". I use a 300 with the 2x extender, giving me 600mm from the boundary. That's my usual length but with smaller grounds, you can get away with around 500mm or 400mm.

I also pick a spot halfway between leg and square (sort of a long off or fine leg position), which allows me to get both wickets and bowler and batsman without other people or umpires getting in the way...I'll see if I can dig up some from the Friends Provident Trophy final yesterday.

Otherwise, it's quite nice (if you've got a large enough boundary) to go completely square and get the players when they sweep or pull shots.

Hi James

Sadly very limited - my 100-300 IS used mostly at the 300mm end. The pitch there is way off centre of the boundary depending on which end/side I was staning I was anywhere from (I think) 100ft to 300ft away from the action. So in this instance limited by the max focal length and the layout. Having said that if I am going to keep trying I will need to dig out a 'plan' to remind of the playing positions as the last time I played was.....lets say.......40 years ago at school  Oh and save harder for more glass ;)

Any examples you have to show & share would be welcome?

Hi James

Are these any better for angle and 'look' ~ I have left them uncropped to show the limitation of my lens. They are from 2 different balls.

For the record ~ sports, motor-racing and aircraft have always drawn my attention, just do not manage to do enough of them.
