If you wanna go non L for a crop body you could look at the 17-55 2.8 IS for the crop sensor. I heard its' optics are as sharp as a L but designed for your type of camera. Enjoy the forum. It's bad for your wallet. You need a constant aperture of 2.8 or faster as a minimum. You also need a somewhat wide angle. Since you are a self proclaimed noob i assume you are on a crop body. 28mm on a crop body is not wide enough.

I want to get some experience doing wedding shoot. Currently i have a 28-135mm IS lens. Is this sufficient for wedding? If you plan to present yourself as the wedding photographer, NO. But you shouldn't plan to do that anyway. Other than that, it depends on a lot of things, honestly. If you are taking pictures at a beach wedding out on the beach, it might work okay. If you will be in a well lit area, it might be fine. If you use flash, it might be okay (but don't use flash and mess up the hired wedding photographer's shots). You'll need better gear if you plan to be a wedding photographer, but if you simply want to take snapshots at a friend's wedding, it will be okay. If you don't get the shots, no one loses--if you do, you've got some great personal photos to supplement the photographer's shots. Gear: 5DII, 40D, 24-105 f4L, 100-400L; 24-70 f2.8L, 70-200 f4 IS L, 17-40 f4 L, 50 f1.4, 550 EX (& a 10D w/ a broken shudder & an Elan IIe that still works)

I believe Sigma also do a similar lens, think it might be a 30mm. Robert Meredith | Sydney, Australia | Wedding & Portrait Photographer
