Why would you replace this lens with a new model if it was a "waste of resources" to replace the 70-200? This is a great lens and could only really be improved with a newer IS system, same as the 70-200. Some people don't like push/pull, but it seems like most people actually prefer it in a telephoto application because it makes it easier to track moving objects. Just a thought from Daniel
