In terms of bokeh, both are exceptional, but I think the Canon just has this something the Sigma lacks.

Yeah, it's got f/1.2.....other than that and the build (weathersealing and classic L quality and of course Canon USM) the sigmalux is a really great alternative. Too bad we have to send them in to Sigma to get them calibrated if you don't have micro-adjust on all your bodies.
That said, I made the switch from the 50L to the EX and am very happy I did.
Thanks for the comparison Ben.....

I have the Sigma, actually. The Canon still has a quality the Sigma doesn't, and to my eyes, it's apparent 'til around f/4

im guessing the 1000 dollar difference will only come to play once in a life time when you least expect it and thats when you wish you had paid it.... So far im doing alright with my EX but Im not trusting it enough yet.

IMO, the only comparison that matter is at f/1.4
Why buy a fast prime if you're going to stop it down to 2.8 or more?

My eyes my be tricking me (or maybe it's because of bias), but do I see some halation or CA coming from the Canon? I'm speaking of the area where the Sigma 50 gold ring is.

Good to see that there's not much of a difference at all between the two.
Thanks for the comparison!

the canon looks like it lets in more light, and the colors are better

colors? that's what lightroom is for, haha. I'm stunned to be honest.. I didn't think quality like that could come out of the siggy. Seeing them compared is a real eye opener. especially for those who can't afford to buy L glass. Getting straight out of camera images is fun and all but really technology is so advanced now I can't do anything without PP.. but I'm a huge geek.

I have the Sigma.. love the creamy bokeh and I find image quality no difference at all, apart from on the Canon you get just a bit of extra light

Look at the Canon 1.4 shot and up to 2.8. The word Pentax and Bu is too red??? Like the focus is off there while the Sigma version is very clear.
