Can any of you guys help us out please?

I have never done any printing until recently. I am having a few problems with clipping. I have set the correct documents, 10x8 4x6 etc. Everything i print seems to be getting clipped from all sides. I have checked in print preview and everything looks fine but once its printed the clipping is there and it dosent matter which program i print from its all the same.

Are you printing at home? Borderless printing?
There's probably an option in the printer driver "Expansion" to prevent white borders...

Thanks for the response but, i can print to the edges, borderless, however even though it is printing the full size its missing about 1 to half an inch of the work even though its showing that these parts of the image should be printed.

As if the actual image is to big for the print.

You say you are printing to both 8x10 and 4x6 -- do these both show similar effect?

An uncropped image from our DSLRs has an aspect ratio of 2:3, which is the same as a 4x6 shot, so without any modification should print a 4x6 image, although I find sometimes some slight cropping might take place if you are printing full bleed. But that aspect ratio will not print an 8x10 or a full bleed 8 1/2x11 without cropping it unless you go into your imaging software and crop to an 8x10 aspect ratio or to and 8 1/2x11 ratio for full bleed.

Could any of that apply to your situatio, or are you aware of all that and doing the aspect ratio groundwork and still getting bad results?

Can you post the original photo and a photo of the resulting print?

Its not just from my dslr, it happens with any graphics i make. I want an A4 borderless 210X297mm print so it goes all the way to the edge and its fine in the print previews like i mentioned. I will see what i can upload to show you guys.

Thanks

Thanks for looking,

I removed the lower parts because i dont think it would be allowed but you can still see what i mean from this.

This is set on A4 210X297mm, This is also how it looks in print preview

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by FLICKR

And then this happens all the way around the print, its only a bit and i could do with resizing the test here but it happens no matter if i have text or regardless of the size im printing. The printer is only a couple of week old.

The second image wont post

Still cant post it, Just imagine the last L missing and a bit of the moon as if the image is not scaled properly. Its baffeling me. I don't get why print preview is showing me one thing then printing something else.

It looks like you may have conflicting issues between your print driver and your layout (just taking a wild guess). Maybe if you could tell us what printer you are using and give us some details of your printer driver settings (or post some screen shots of relevant dialogs) we might get a clue.

To get to the printr driver, you will want to go to the printer Properties which is either accessible from Page Setup, Print.., or from your Printers panel in the system (on XP, you can either get to it from Start/Printers and faxes, or from the Control Panel).

In your properties dialog box there should be a Printing Preferences button to specify things like Paper/Quality, etc.

In that Preferences tab, there will be choices that affect the output of our print. For example, you will have a choice to Scale to fit or 100% (or other percent) of normal size. You might need to play with those or other settings to get the output you need.

Typically, though, I'm printing from Lightroom and the page layout does fine for me, resizing the image to the size dimensions I need. Maybe when you go to the Page Layout dialog and set up your job, you could do a screen shot of your final design and post it here -- we may be able to catch something.

Thanks guys ive just been looking for the definition of bleed and thats exactly what its doing. Its stupid that it shows you one thing in the preview but prints something else, never the less i will just have to keep my work a couple if mm away from the edges. I wouldnt of know if it wasnt for you guys trying to help us out, so thanks.

I use all the above settings when i need to.
A4 borderless or 4x6 borderless. i thought this way i wouldnt have to scale and fit 100% but even when i do scale to fit 100% all the image is within the preview.

I might be getting the technical terms wrong. What is bleed? is it when some of the image isnt on the print around the edges? if it is, thats what happening. Printing photos isnt really my concern, its for when i make birthday cards or A4 designs.

Thanks for your help.

I have just looked for the definition of bleed and thats exactly what my images are doing. Its Stupid to show you one thing in print preview, for it to print something else, never the less i know i have to make a few mm in my work, this was going to be my next step if i couldn't getting it working as i wanted, but it turns out i would of been doing the correct thing anyway.

Thanks again for helping me out.

Glad you got it sorted out!

Remember, the software you are using to develop the image isn't necessarily "smart" when it comes to the capabilities of the printer/driver, so sometimes we have to work through those things. Your "full bleed" experience is a good example of that. And, there will be a big difference between full bleed on a 4x6, where "bleed" will be minimal, and a full bleed on an 8 1/2x11, where there would be all kinds of cropping going on unless you cropped your image to that ratio ahead of time.

This is exactly the case, it happens more 8 1/2x11.

From what i have just read, all i have to do is crop the image?

I dont understand why it would happen to a design thats been created in photoshop in a document set at 8 1/2x11
