Coating blemish on B+W F-Pro filter?

I purchased a B+W UV Haze MRC F-Pro filter a few months ago and recently noticed a small speck on the glass part of the filter. It's a small round (perfectly round, actually) speck that looks like a blemish on the coating of the filter. I've tried cleaning the filter, but it's not a smudge that will wipe off. Is something like this normal? Does anyone have a similar issue?

Thanks!

I have this particular B+W filter on all four of my lenses and have not seen anything like you have described. May possibly be a defect? Where did you purchase the filter from?
I would be so inclined to send the filter back for replacement...

I purchased the filter from B&H. Do you know if B+W offers some kind of warranty on the filters?

I found one person with a similar problem on his B+W F-Pro filter on another forum, but he didn't receive any good answers to his questions.

Contact B&H and see what they have to say about return or exchanges.

There is a 5-year warranty on B+W filters. Best to contact B&H for a follow up regarding your finding.

Maybe a defect from the coating process. I had sort of the same problem with a Heliopan filter I bought from BH. They replaced it.

Thanks everyone! I'll just have to make another stop by B&H then. Hopefully they'll replace it.

I had the same issue with a B+W "007" filter about a month ago. The coating flaw looked like a tiny gold flake, visible only under a bright light and at certain angles.

I called B+W in NY for warranty claim instructions, and mailed them the filter along with a copy of my bill of sale. About a week later, they sent me a replacement filter.

In such cases, I usually prefer to deal with the manufacturer, since a retailer is more likely to inadvertantly send another flawed product.

Thank you for this info. I've had this filter for 2 months now, so I'm not sure how B&H would handle an exchange. I'd also prefer to deal directly with the manufacturer, so this info is very helpful!
