Windows 7.0 free till 20/08/09

I'd love to have "superb 64bit operation" but don't know which programs can't be used on a 64bit system. I do know that I'm on 32bit right now - when I upgraded the RAM I wasn't able to use more than 4GB (actual amount available is a little less). All my programs work now, but which ones won't? Is there a way to tell?

Another question, how do you move all your programs, especially if you don't want to look for the registration codes?

Programs should be fine on 64 bit and I'd go to it, when I get a new desktop. I see no reason to swap OS on my laptop when XP has been fine since I got it and runs rather smoothly as is. Buying a new OS is the biggest waste generally, downloading this for a trial, not bad but not worth it IMO unless you have the time to swap and some alarms to switch back.

When I get a new desktop I'll consider 7 but the problem remains, what problems will there be? I hate the idea of using Vista on my new computer and that XP for whatever reason is $150 extra but I'll wait and see now. When is 7 officially going to be released anyway?

Vista x64 is the best *released* operating system I've used to date...all of the major kinks have been ironed out. I have no doubt 7 will be the same story.

Win7 > Vista SP1/2 > XP in my honest opinion. forget if your computer can run one or another. with capable machines that would be my list from amazing to great to very very good

The only problem you will have is trying to get some sleep after you try Win 7.

I am going to keep using the Win7 RC untill March. We should be able to get some decent prices on Ebay by then or some OEM versions from Newegg/Amazon.

I had a good laugh when I saw the prices of the retail versions.

It's just an OS...which I know, is a lot. But Vista bugged me because of design and waste of memory for stupid extras. Mac's is complicated and Apple needs to generally die. XP is simple, it's why I like it but I don't notice a difference, maybe it's been too long, from 98.

Upgrade pre-orders were only 50 bucks.

Find a friend who has access to the MSDN TechNet, they can make up to 10 keys per product.

Good news for people with multiple computers!
Microsoft will be offering a "family pack" for Windows 7.
meaning you can put it on up to 3 computers.

How much will this thing cost when the clock starts to run out. I don't want to download Windows 7 now just to find out that on JUN 2010 my computer becomes a brick because I could not afford the OS....How much?

Microsoft is pissed off with global dealers and (copies) did the same as APPLE. They oppening 100s of stores all over the world that send directly to your door as well!! Microsoft stores..

They will be cheaper and Original prices, than any other dealer globally

All this Microsoft news make me happy to report, Apple is officially a liar and can no longer air their dumb ass "Apple proof" commercials as the iphone can and has been hacked to where they can not only disconnect it from the server but use it from any local! Down with the iphone!!!

Serious questions here and looking for qualified advice...

Last fall I purchased a DELL XPS 420 Core2Quad Q6600 4Gb, running two 250gb sata drives (one for OS and apps, one for PS scratch) and Vista Home Premium. I'm running, dual screens but don't remember the video card.

(Personally, I've only had a couple of very minor issues with Vista. Overall, it's worked great for me and I just updated to SP2.)

My question are...

1. Will Win7 run well with my current hardware?
   
2. Which version of Win7 should I use: 32-bit or 64-bit?
   
3. Can I install Win7 on a new SATA drive and keep my current Vista OS drive in the box too (just set it to boot from the new Win7 drive)?
   
4. Does the (free) Win7 have Remote Networking enabled?
   

Windows 7 has a system checker that you can run for free. I ran it and there were several conflicts with Norton Ghost,ZoneAlarm and a few others. I don't see the point of switching even if those conflicts could be easily resolved???

I've been running Win7 for a few months now and I believe it's by far the best Windows OS to date! I thought I would try and run XP forever (I skipped Vista) but when I built my new computer I thought I'd give the RC 64bit version a go. It's very fast and has crashed like... never! Everything I used before is compatible the only problem I had was getting my printer to share on my Vista laptop. But I think that's totally a Vista issue (we JUST got the laptop). Luckly it's getting a free Win7 upgrade in October.

I don't know if I would recommend installing the RC version because yes- you are going to have to reinstall a new copy of windows and that is a pain in the a**. I would simply recommend buying it when it comes out and be done with it. I am glad I have tried the RC version because I am looking forward to BUYING it!
