Hello, If I remember correctly last year the 50d was annouced in August Does anyone expect the 60d to be annouced in the coming weeks?
Thanks,

Is it just me or am I expecting the 50D to be around for at least two more years. I'd imagine that Canon's next big announcement would be the introduction of the new 1D series since they were released in 2007.

Try this link

http://en.wikipedia.org …Canon_EOS_Digital_Cameras (external link)

You will see that the 50D was released in 2008Q4, and Canon seems to use a 18month cycle, so the 60D is someway off. Now things could change, but I don't think so.

60D will be out next month (from whenever you read this).

Some people say the 1DmkIV will be out first (before the Winter Olympics). But who knows.

There are rumors that the 60D will be announced in August (roughly one year after the 50D), and other rumors that Canon will go back to an 18 month cycle, putting the 60D announcement sometime in early 2010. I guess we'll know when we know. :)

It's just you :) They've pulled the 40d off the Web, prices have been steadily dropping and with the leaking of the Nikon roadmap I think we'll see a 60d by Xmas :)

I hope so - I'm planning to upgrade later this year from the XT/350D, and would prefer the (hopefully) better noise characteristics of a 60D to the 50D, although the 50D looks plenty good from what I've read and seen here and elsewhere.

I know - but since I have to wait until Sep/Oct anyway, I can always hope that the next great thing will be here by then.

This reminds me of golf clubs, Callaway Golf in particular.

I used to be a daily golfer until my insanity passed and I got into something sane (photography). The reason I say sane is that with golf you can "master" the game one day, and meltdown into a total beginner the next.

With golf you can take two steps forward and eight steps back. With photography it's more like two steps forward, and occasionally one step back, buy you're always making forward progress. It takes years of inactivity to lose skill in photography.

With golf,it takes one day of inactivity, sometimes one hour. Sometimes one hole. Heck, let's be honest. One bad shot.

That said, Callaway is constantly putting out a "new" line of clubs each eight months or so, and the truth is that no matter how often you upgrade, you're only going to improve based on how hard you work at it.

Just like photography. The XXD series, in my opinion, peaked with the 40D. There isn't anything improved in the 50D, and in fact, some say it's not as good as the 40D. The 60D won't be any better than the 40D either.

If you want to get better than a 40D, go full frame.

Just my humble opinion as someone who learned the hard way. I spent 2000 dollars on Callaway Golf Clubs back in the year 2000. I played and played and really improved (by ONE STROKE) over the course of a year.

Then, I flew out to California and borrowed my dad's 99 dollar set of golfclubs (that's 99 dollars from Sport Authority. Included 14 clubs and a bag) and had my best round ever by about four strokes.

Hard lesson learned.

That's why this Canon Rebel XS I just bought is going to be my camera until it's no longer working and repair bills are more than a new one.

Same with my Honda Civic. I'll be driving it until I have to pedal it like Fred Flinstone.

Thank you. bw!

Technology advances too fast! By the time you purchase a new camera, become acquainted with it, in 6-12 months a new model comes forth and yours is now somewhat obsolete...
