Phil,

What is this building?

It "appears" to me to be cut in half - the cut appears to be wider at the bottom and can clearly are able to look thru the wall on the bottom, but go to the top and the "cut" then disappears....

Very intriguing!

Hi Charles.

I'm not sure what you are seeing, I've never really paid this tower much attention apart from photographing it :-)

I know it's getting a bit wonky and repairs have been done recently.
The tower was rebuilt in 1863 by John Eaton to commemorate the marriage of Albert Edward to Princess Alexandra, replacing a building that had been there since 1751.
There have been beacons or signal towers on this hill since the 16th century.

I suspect its an electrical cable conduit, rather than a break. There also seems to be modern lighting Fixtures around it taking away the old look. the openings seem to have recent brick work closing them off.

I just downloaded the photo and took a better look at it in Photoshop Elements. I believe 4matic is correct. It does look like an electrical conduit going up the building!

Thank you Phil for the history on this tower!!

Correct Neil.

The cable is a lightning conductor. I should imagine this tower gets hit a lot.

Looks like it could be a conductor for a lightening rod on top of the structure.
