a few nights back we had one of those sunsets when the horizon was a light show in varying intensity colour and effect
amazing to soak up and realise how small we are in this huge arena that spreads out before us

Great capture of the sunrays coming through the clouds. One of the best I have seen.

Something that has always fascinated me is that the light rays from the come 93,000,000 odd miles from the sun in parallel lines and as soon as they burst through a cloud they diverge?

Anyone know why because I would love to know that answer?

That's a cracking photo Fotoi.

They still move in parallel lines, but you see that in perspective.

I don't know anything. But I know other things.

@unclejohn has it correct. We usually see those rays while looking towards the sun. If you had a situation where the beams were perpendicular to your view, they would be parallel. Tall buildings also converge to a vanishing point, but the rows of windows still appear parallel.

The windrows in the image below are all parallel, but you see they "diverge" in the same fashion as sunbeams. The hydroelectric lines in the background are parallel, but you know that if you stood next to a tower and looked down the lines, they would seem to converge to a point. Actually two points if you turned around and looked the other way, and there are occasional anticrepuscular rays that you can see with your back to the sun.

I like the image because the leaves are very colorful.
