This abandoned building is a couple blocks down the street from my apartment. I think it will be torn down soon. Several similar buildings in the neighborhood have been renovated and turned into lofts, but I think this structure is too small to be of any use.

All are very good, but I really like the shadows and the colors in the last shot. . . . enjoyed your gallery. . . good work!

Thanks John. These pics are a bit of a departure from what I normaly shoot. Glad you liked them. I am fairly new to this city, Charlotte, and after running out of angles for shooting the skyline at sunset I am forced to get more creative. There are tons of old buildings with character in this city and I am planning on getting more photos like these over the next few weeks. If I don't get called into work tomorrow I think I am going to get some pawn shop pics.

What John T. said. That last one is especially nice.

Nice shots, keep visiting these old buildings...

Still, the second shot totally lacks of background...was it completely black? I would perhaps try to increase a bit DOF in this one...

The third shot has beautiful light and shadows...you could also consider cropping a bit down and left, these parts of the image are less interesting than the rest, they only distract the eye...

nice work, thank you for posting

TO,

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually already tried both. The second pic I tried a couple different versions. For one I used f9.5 to increase DOF and for the one you see posted I used f5.6. When took these pics I did the f9.5 one first and guessed the background would look too cluttered. I took the f5.6 one second. When I got home I found the f9.5 pic look terrible. It was a jumbled mess.

I also tried cropping the third one like you suggested. I agree there are some dead areas that could be chopped out. The problem when I cropped it was it made the photo look all unbalanced. The pile of lumber no longer had a floor to sit on and the windows looked funny.

I think that last pic could be awesome if I'd been able to actually get inside the building rather than just poke my camera through a broken window pane. I like to have more control over the composition than that.

Thanks for the comments. I am really more of a nature photography guy and I am finding city shooting to be more of a challenge than I thought it would be. I wanted to go out and try for some more pics last night, but I got called into work.

Those are nice shots. By all means you should try your hand at structure shots. They will stretch your seeing ability and that should carry over into other subject matter.

Great color on all three shots - I love them. Numbers 1&3 do seems to run downhill to the right a little bit. Re: cropping #2 - Don't do it - wihout the dead spots the lumber wouldn't seem as alive.(I think, anyhow)

One on their own would not have worked, but together these are great and tell a story of the building. Good work.

Love that last one, you got more pics? I'm a sucker for abandoned buildings.
