I had a bit of magenta now and then depending on which WB I was using, checked after firmware update and everything seems OK..:cool:

I'm enjoying it already...

I've just seen that Nikon have just released the D300s & D3000. Maybe they have done this rather than update the firmware on older models :rolleyes:

:lol::lol:

Firmware updates are cheaper than new bodies.

Correct !!

Accordind to the Canon info:

"If the background has little or no contrast (such as the sky or white walls), and the white balance (WB) setting of the camera is not AWB (Auto White Balance), images may tend to appear somewhat magenta."

Hmm... interesting. Are there any before and after pics that anyone can share?

I haven't noticed any problem with mine, although that's not to say that I don't have that problem. I'm wondering whether I should just blindly apply the update or check to see if I'm affected first.

if you don't use custom white balance, the update is useless.

but i always like to believe they might have modified something else as well, that would affect me too since i always shoot RAW and leave AWB on.

By custom white balance I think most people mean the setting that is just that, a customized white balance, based on a photo you take.
The others are pre-defined, and it seems this is of some relevance for the pre-defined ones

When you use RAW, you can easily fix the white balance after the fact anyway, so then it may have no bearing at all.

That makes sense. I guess I'll just not upgrade the firmware for now. Thanks for the insight.

If Canon are like other manufacturers, they usually sneak in some updates which nobody will really notice, but may make the device more stable to use, or whatever.

I wonder why Canon doesn't announce firmware updates for our 50D??
