If not considering money - would you consider the 1Ds mk3 a more allround camera than the 1Dmk3?

Based on my my interpretation of what all-round performance means: No. Each body has compromises in its specification in order to meet some specific objective. Among other things, the DsMKIII sacrifices continuous speed to allow processing of larger files than those of the 1DMKIII.

Would you therefore accept that more speed makes it a more all-round camera? I doubt we could get overall agreement one way or another across the D and Ds owner group on POTN, so my opinion is based on my needs and I didn't settle for larger files, slower speed (and higher price). Its interesting to consider: Does buying the DsMKIII get you more all-round performance? I don't think so.

I would absolutely put the 1 series as a whole as more "all around" than the 1Ds models.

See, I had a 30d, great for low light, it was decently fast, but when I got a 1d I compromised the good ISO capability for a faster, better built machine. Its all a compromise, I wish I would have kept the 30d for the ISO but the 1d also has pros over the 30d.

all around would be the 1Diii IMHO. It can do everything except have the giant files. Also, in "best all around" most would say you have to consider price, so the 1DsIII certainly isn't twice as good. ;)

i own both. 1d mark III is easily more of an all-arounder :D.

Thank you all of you for your views. I am going to buy the 1Dmk3 og the 1Dsmk3. These suggestions are important guidelines in deciding what to buy.:)

It really depends on what you shoot? I like to have the large files because I enlarge some prints to poster size and I don't really need the faster fps.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Thanks, more than everybody else, I appreciate the info from this thread and the folks that I have spoken to by private message regards this subject. The vast majority preference is the 1DMk3 by 97%; that's a hell of a mandate baesd upon everything that has been brought up here:

"Autofocus (speed), image quality, decent image size capabilities, ease of process and all of the intangibles"

My next camera - TODAY - 1DMk3 - I can't wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started this thread a long time ago and got a lot of good replies from it and thanks to you all again! In december I was just about to order the mk3 as Canon introduced the mk4. Well, I just bought the mk4 a few weeks back and tough it's a steep learning curve from the 30D, you can still use it straight out of the box, which I appreciate a lot.
I have decided to keep the 30D as a backup and for my fiancees use. I also bought the EF-S 60mm macrolens for it and it is so good that that lens itself is reason good enough to keep it.
