I wonder where Canon is more profitable or more dominant againts the competition.
That would suggest what we should expect from them in the future.
Reason I ask is that in the last 2 years, Canon hasn't really released a decent P&S camera.
Only one deserves mention is the SX1 IS for its features, however one can argue that its price tag, poor picture quality, easily can make enduser buy XSI kit.
My problem with Canon is mostly with the departure of a590, a650, a720....it's so-called replacements a1000/2000 (or so I assume), aren't in the ball park. They removed manual control, made slower lenses, and did not add 1 thing to its predecessors
One can argue that sx series replaced those, but I disagree, Sx series is basically hurried answer to pannie's tz (now zs) series. The problem is, they are 12-18 month behind Pannie in the area, so I do not know what they will do.
Seems like all Canon cares lately is to do their 12 month upgrades by adding pixels and updating its digic cpu and filling in the gasps for camera price (every $25)
It would be nice to see Canon actually try to remove 1-2 models from it's S and A liineup and create proper competition to others.
few cameras's i'd like to see:
1. f2/.0 or faster wide angle lens, maybe 22-80mm maybe?
2. real competion to zs3, by doing 24-288mm with 720p, and full manual controls. 0cm macro is nice, and strong flash.
3. make G camera count and give it full HD mode, 24-160mm or so and all it's perks.
no one is going to tell me that technologically its not possible, for no one here actually knows. The company needs to stop the pixel race and actually try to use larger sensors and cap at 10mp's
also, C and D cells are now available in rechargable form and go yo tp 10,000mah, using 2 of them would basically means you have 8 good quality aa's in, so you can justify including a 3", 920k screen, GOOD flash, etc
