The front lens cap came off during shipping and scratched the front element. I'm sure it does not affect IQ, but if I pay for a new product I'd like the glass to be perfect. I tried to clean it just to make sure it was a scratch. It was also very difficult to clean might I add. It's a shame I have to send it back. The colors are excellent and it's sharper than my 50mm f/1.4 at f/4.

I'm sorry about it.
I hope you will get the replacement soon. It's a great lens.
Just curious... Where you bought it?

The front cap not on the lens seems to be a common thing with Tokina, at least in my experience. But regardless, try a soft lens tissue and some lens solution. The front lens element is not easily scratched up. Just give it a gentle try in a circular motion.

Cleaned again to no avail. It's a shame, I love this lens. :) :) :)

I also bought a tokina 12-24mm off b&h and it arrived last week. The front cap came off as well. I was worried that it would scratch the front element, but after some cleaning, I found no scratches. Good luck with B&H.

btw, i found mine not that sharp...

Gaaaahhhhh! You people are driving me crazy!

Need a wide angle. Sigma 10-20 and Tokina 12-24 seem good, fit budget. Sigma is wider with better and closer focusing and weighs less. Tokina is a bit cheaper, may have better optics, and may have fewer QC issues than the Sigma. Back and forth all week, read all the threads, resisted making a new one myself. Every couple of days someone throws something new into the mix like "i found mine not that sharp."

Just tell me which one I'll be happier with a year from now already. You can do that, can't you?

If I just bought a lens brand new and it didn't arrive in said condition, I wouldn't hesitate to return it! Don't hassle with cleaning it. It's their problem. All my lenses that I have bought brand new are still in the same condition, so I wouldn't accept anything less than that!

I just got the Tok 11-16mm and it's an incredible lens! I was in the exact same boat as you going back and fourth, but I eventually made the right decision! I just posted some pictures here on the 2nd page: https://photography-on-the.net …hread.php?t=732924&page=2

Tokina has 3 year warranty! If something happens to it, you can always get it fixed for free!!
