Yeah I was in the same boat, had sigma 24-60 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 then decided to rent a 17-40L and shortly after returning it, I sold my sigma stuff and bought the 17-40, now looking at getting the 24-70L. Never thought I'd even consider spending a grand on one lens. Lol, better get used to it I guess.

Yeah, everything I have was picked up over the last month  lol it does hit hard and fast. The problem is you can't just buy an L zoom and go back to a lesser lens for wide angle. You become spoiled and need good stuff for every focal length you intend to shoot.

my newest edition.

the 400 2.8L IS is in a league of it's own, but the weight is pretty nuts, and I personally like the 300 2.8L IS better. Get the 300 next, man you will LOVE IT.

Every time I see the EF 85/1.2L II, my heart skips a beat. I may develop an arrhythmia from looking at all the L glass publicity photos. Canon should try making an EF 100/1.4L with a 77mm front filter diameter. Or bring back the 50/1.0L and make it better; the f/1.2 version isn't all that impressive for what it is.

But what I really, really, really would like is a 300/2.8L IS. *sigh*

The only cure to L disease is to get them all. I thought I kicked it when I had all the L zooms, but then you want all the primes as well. My first L prime was the 85 II, now I want the 50, 35 and 24.

Green ring = DO.

As for the colour - perhaps it's due to the different refractive properties of the respective lenses - or perhaps it's added in after? IDK - perhaps an expert can enlighten us!

There was actually a sound explanation for it from Canon as I recall. The front coatings are designed to work across the entire visible light spectrum to supress glare and reflection and so on, but you only 'see' the top coating, and the order the coatings are applied is determined by the lens elements, design, focal length etc. As a result the front coating colour varies. Like I said, there was a decent explanation for it, but I can't remember where or exactly what it was.

L glass kicks ass.

L glass kicks ass.

.......Pity me. I have ventured down a path with no return that will suck me dry. I will die broke, and my kin will have to sell my gear to pay for my funeral.

I had "gold ring" fever which is usually cured quickly with a good drug cocktail of Sigmagon, Tamronapolyle and a bit of Getatokinaox. Usually after a consultation with Dr. Jojo (external link).

Unfortuneately I accidently took El lenzanol which lead to a very hard to cure case of L fever.

The only cure is Komplaninwifelarx.

bw!

Thankfully, mine is (so far) encouraging me - to the extent that I'm only "allowed" two more "L"s this year! She can be VERY persuasive...
