I guess if it were nasty I would wash it with soap and water and leave it out in the sun for a few hours to kill any other bacteria.

Have never used one. All mine are still in their original packing. I guess you can try and if it doesn't work buy a new one, or buy a better strap. There are so, so, so many better straps out there.

Machine wash cold on delicate cycle with mild detergent. I did this to mine and then dried it in the dryer on low heat. Looks brand new again.

Never used mine either. I've tied mine in a bow around the tree outside B&H hoping Canon release the 5D2's they're holding hostage.

FWIW, since a lot of people don't use theirs, you can usually pick one up for $15 - $20 on the FS forum here.

I burned mine. Even the free SmugMug strap doesn't hurt the neck as much!

I like my 5D2 one, it says "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" on it. It's like "HEY, LOOK, I OWN AN AMAZING CAMERA!"

bad for theft/rape though.

I made a padded cover for mine. I've got all sorts of designed ones. I can wash them too, and it's more personalized than the blah canon one! Right now I've got one with flames on it.

Ill tie mine hoping that they release them AND I can afford one. We can go Prayer Flag style on it. Who else is in? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_flag (external link) As for the OP question. If you wash it, I recommend tying it up inside a pillowcase to act as a buffer so that it doesnt get wrapped around the washer's center tumbler and ruin it. Also, to protect it from getting too mangled. Gentle cycle is your friend.

In over 50 years of photography, and numberless straps, I have never washed one.
