I've only recently started with the POTN G-series challenge but enjoy it a lot. It's fun selecting, or taking, a photo to fit the theme and the feedback is constructive. You also get to see some nice photography!

I am neither a cat nor a dog lover, but for the second time tonight I am giving praise to photographs of pets. Both the cat and dog are superb. The dog has a little catchlight in his eye. I have a G3. I hope I may be able to achieve something like the quality you have shown in all your pics (even on your website, superb). I shall try your settings - av priority 4.5. I was also wondering whether you had powered your flash down. Your settings are very useful. Thank you and Well Done.

Ha ha.....that is very well thought of, very nice shot on the move. I've been out again today doing some more macro stuff? i'm hooked on it, and i can't get enough. So far all my macro stuff is either done in the house, doorstep or while taking the dog out for usual outing, it goes to show that you don't have to venture very far? The shots i took this morning were of another 'bell' flower but this time it was a 'whitebell', it was the only decent one there was because the bluebells are starting wither, the other shot was of some moss on a dead tree. I've yet to edit them yet, if they're good enough you shall see them?

Thanks for all that. Right then, you can achieve with your G3 what i've done all it takes is a litle practice and don't be afraid to keep fireing at the same subject with different settings, a little adjustment here and there. What you've got to remember is that a pro photographer will take a lod of shots in quick time, he/she amy only get one of, lets say 20 shots that will be of any use. For my macro shots i allways use f8 and a touch of fill flash i also use the built in nd filter to cut some of the light that touches the subject but not always, i may bring the power of the flash down by a 3rd? But for cat and dog i did'nt do anything with the flash, i just made sure i had a wide enough aperture to blur the background but to keep enough detail for the main subject.

I hope this has given you some thought now, go shoot some work and take your time, prefocus is also important, but just one last thing, just remember that flash is also good freezing the slightest movement while outside?

Good luck....
