Sigma's 70-300mm APO lens is significantly better optically than the non-APO version. It will work fine with your dSLR. I owned one for years and used it with both my EOS-1 and my XTI. I was always impressed with the sharpness and contrast. It has a noisy, slow auto-focus motor, but it makes up for this with a nice macro feature which gives a 1:2 reproduction ratio. If action photography is your thing, than this is not your lens. The Canon 70-200mm L lenses would be better. But for macro and general still photography, it's hard to beat this lens for the price. Look on Amazon.com. They're currently on sale for $192.00 US with free shipping. APO, by the way, stands for apochromatic. It means that a Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element is incorporated in the lens to correct for chromatic distortion. As gasrocks stated, it isn't a true APO lens, as some chromatic distortion remains, but it is much better than the non-APO version or Canon's cheap non-IS version, IMHO. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.
