I wouldn't be surprised if the short supply was on purpose. Think about it... once Canon knew that the MkII would take off, how about cutting back on production and delivery? People who have been waiting for months will still want one, they might use alternative methods to acquire it or simply play the waiting game. Seems to be the luck of the draw if you happen to go in and they have it in stock. About a month ago when I purchased my L series lens from J&R, I asked about the MkII and the rep told me that they were expecting five units the following day. If I wanted one, he could hold it for me but I had to come in before closing the next day. Trust me, from a business perspective, Canon knows what they are doing.

Definitely. It's the same thing with the Nintendo Wii, Canon isn't stupid for sure.

Agreed. If B&H, Adorama, and J&R had that price I'd have to pull the trigger and worry about paying it off later. :o

The 1Ds is $5450 while reputable dealers have it for $6900

I wonder if the supply shortage is in US only. I was just in Japan.. went to MapCamera in Tokyo and someone was buying a 5D2 body. Less than a week later I went back to buy a 5D2 kit. No problem... just walk in, ask for one and pay. They even had a whole bunch of used 5D2 bodies. As far as I could tell, most shops had stock of both the body only and the kit. Here in Australia, it also doesn't seem hard to get a hold of a 5D2. Maybe it's Canon USA who haven't been bringing enough stock into the US?

I just bought a 5D, 24-105 package from Canoga Camera. ( I got the last one) I have never used them before but B&H and Amazon were sold out and the people from my other post were complete scammers......

........anyway, The woman I talked to said that Canon is only trickling these out just a few at a time. They will only send them two or three a week. So Canon is obviously restricting supply.

I guess it also depends on the price you're willing to pay. If you pay for an inflated price, you can get it right away. Granted some local stores do have them in stock.

I'm willing to wait since I got it for $2410 (body only) once it comes in stock. I'm seeing used ones going for almost full retail!

I think that a probable strategy is to first decide which seller you plan to buy the DSLR and second place an order for it. What this will do for you is place you in a queue so when a shipment is received by the seller, you will have priority to get one.

Well, I guess I will never buy from Canoga Camera again.

Salesperson told me over the phone she was going to "hold the last one for me" So I instantly placed an order online, then called back and confirmed my order. "yup we have it and I put the camera aside......"

Today I get a call from someone there telling me that the camera and lens I bought was held for someone else that is picking it up! And I cant have it. What BS. Thanks for nothing Canoga! looks like I will just place an order with Amazon and wait....

I wish they would knock $50 off for the manual!
