and love it. Took the day off from work (luckily I own the place) and went out and shot, right after UPS dropped it off. Very fast, clear LCD, all around nice camera.

Going to shot some water sports with it this weekend.

Congrats.. be sure that it has the latest firmware (external link) installed though. I tried 50D, great camera but hated the magenta cast, and the new firmware is supposed to have that fixed.

Going for the

27-70L and 70-200 F4 IS

I'd suggest going for EF-S 17-55 IS USM as the 24-70 just isn't wide enough on a 1.6x though I've managed to survive with 24-105 on 40D previously but that's because I knew I was gonna move to FF.

Thats hopefully my plan is to ride this camera for a year, then step up to FF.

Prefer to have the glass ready to go when the next body comes.

Glass keeps it's value rather well. You can always sell the 17-55 and get the 24-70 later, get the good glass now.

17-55 2.8 IS, and 70-200 variant is a great way to start.

Dont worry, the 17-55 is a fine lens and has a good resale value. Do not let the next 365 days be a sacrificing one. Correct me if I'm wrong but what I've noticed is that the difference between wide end is much more visible than tele end, meaning, 17-24 is not a lot of diff in number but a LOT of diff in field of view, not so much for 55-70. You can easily step forward for reach but have to step back lots more for a pulled out shot.

Of course if you shoot more candids than landscape or... wide angle shots, the 24-70 should be in favour. But... really... IS to me is god's sent, it's more than just for low-lit conditions and it's one of reasons I've not had my hands on the 24-70.

OK... here's an example of what I meant when I said IS is more than just for low-lit conditions. There're times where I wanted some motion in my picture while still keeping the surrounding sharp and the only way to achieve that is to use low-speed. IS helped me to take care of the rest...

I may just have to take a look into the 17-55 then. I was curious about that with the 1.6 crop.

I love my 17-85

17-85... had that too. Loved the range but not the distortion at wide end, CA at corners and.... slow. You'll miss the range definitely but with 2.8, it's faster and getting that bokeh will be simpler.
