Digital Rebel Hardware Issue

Hi everyone,

I have a 1st generation Digital Rebel that's about 5 years old. It's my baby, and it's been used a lot. Recently, the memory card door has become loose, causing it to pop open when I'm in the middle of using it. This is frustrating, because as you may know the camera turns off when the door is open. It's almost as though the latch stopped working, but I can't figure out what controls it.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any advice?

Thanks!

If it is an original rebel they are now so old that I doubt it is worth spending a large amount to get fixed, I suspect a bit of gaffa tape will keep it closed.

Second the tape, and if need be, using thin velcro pads cut to small strips may work too. As for power off, there's a small switch that gets pressed, you need to just follow the contour of the door until you see the tab. Then you can put something to jam the opposing slot (it'll be where the tab would be if the door closed), and it won't power off for any reason at all.

I also still use the original Digital Rebel (300D), although it will be replaced in the next 6 months or so. I still love that camera although I am starting to have some minor issues with it, specifically with hot pixels.

I will third the suggestion about tape. I don't know how else you would fix it other than buying a junk DRebel on ebay to use for parts and switch out the door. I certainly don't think it would be worth the money to send to Canon to fix.

Tim
