Hey everyone been getting pretty into photography and decided to go with the canon rebel t1i as my first camera. I am pretty into action shots, whether its sports or what not, a lot of outdoor shots im a huge hunter so i would love to get some awesome shots of some animals, and portraits. Wanted to know if there was any advice anyone could give me to get me ready for this camera. Also what lenses should i look at for those type of shots to get me that really crisp photo within a reasonable price range (i assume most people replace the lens that comes on the camera).

You can buy the T1i body only, then buy whatever lens you wish. A nice lens you can get for that body would be a Canon 70-200mm f/4.0L IS or if you can swing it a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

depends what you consider "reasonable." the 75-300 could be considered reasonable..

Welcome!

and let us know a budget - - reasonable for some is a car for others.

Often when someone spends $1000 on a camera they consider it should do close to everything.

portraits and animals - comprimise could be something like a 55-250 if on a budget, 70-200 f4LIS or 70-200 2.8IS if feeling rich (2x the cost of your camera alone)

for wildlife look at 100-400 http://www.bhphotovideo.com …mm_f_4_5_5_6L_IS_USM.html (external link)

but if budget is a concern - the 70-300 is worth a look... as is this site to compare lots of canon stuff... i always recommend it - and find the info within it quite factual and objective.

gooooood luck!

I was in your boat about a year ago and also bought the XTI. I just love it. I started with the kit 18-55 lens. I have since added the 70-300IS lens and the 85mm F1.8. I shoot a great deal of youth sports games. The 70-300 is my outdoor sports lens and the 85 is my indoor/gymnasium lens. I just added that one and have only used it a little to test it out. I will use it a lot this winter shooting indoor volleyball/basketball.

I know the quality of the kit lens is not on par with my other two, but I still use it quite a bit and am pretty happy with the pics it produces.

I would suggest you go into a camera shop and look at, hold and test both Canon and Nikon brands before you buy anything.
The Canon T1i and Nikon D5000 are both entry level camera bodies, you can get with or without the standard kit lens.
The standard kit lens is a good buy and I would recommend buying a kit with whatever brand/model you purchase. It`s in your best interest to compare Canon and Nikon before you spend your money.

After you`ve made your derision, buy it on line from Amazon, B&H, ETC.

I think im going to go with the 55-250.

checked these out...

https://photography-on-the.net …55-250mm+f%2F4-5.6&page=4

seems like a nice little lens that takes crisp pictures and its definitely in my price range

took this picture a couple years back when i was younger, it was taken with an olympus p.o.s. digi. What do you think?

I could not agree more with "drdiesel1". I would also add to look into lens selection from Canon and Nikon as well as lens prices. I thought I would only use the kit lens, but have added two lenses in the first year of the hobby...hehe.

On prices, a lot of the older used Nikons wont AF on the new Nikon bodies...Then theres a boatload of compatability issues with Nikon lenses..

On Canon..they never had that issue :) also Canon's stuff is pretty cheap new compared to Nikon/Sony, And in a price range certain lenses are better equipped [Ie, Canon's 85 f/1.8 makes a great indoor sports lens at a terrific price, Nikon's isnt quite as good..]

the f/4 zooms are also a nice thing Canon has, pro quality in and out but without the weight and price of making it f/2.8

a zoom would be nice for anything from 50-100 yards, but i would sacrifice distance quality and sharpness like being able to see sweat on somebody for water drops on leaves
