I have the CP but don't have the comparison photo

just want to share the info with you.

CP is good to cut the reflection. So if you shot the photo where the area has a lot of reflection of it, it is a good filter. Since it cut the reflection, so it may make your photo underexpose depend on the density.

if you just the blue more on the sky, that you can do it simply with PP and no need to spend like 50 or 70$ for CP filter.

By the way, I am sure many of you will buy Hoya because the quality of this company is good. However, if you go on Ebay and search for Kenko, you will find the filter has the same quality as hoya for almost 40% off. Why? Because both Kenko and Hoya are the same company. Hoya is for oversea and kenko is used for local japan. There is no different expect the price.

I probably suck at PP but everytime I try to improve the color of the sky, the image looks very cartoon-ish.

the trick is adding a new layer with Gradient black. The black area mush at least cover your sky area. Then you change your layer blending mode to "soft", and change the layer capacity to 50% at start point. Increasing capacity will make the blue sky bluer

I attached one of the examples here. Let me know if it is still too cartoonish for you.

Thanks for the advice. Could you please recommend any specific sellers? I notice most of the Kenko CPL filters on ebay are sold by sellers from HK and China, but then you say Kenko is used for local Japan. I just want to be sure of authenticity if I am buying from an ebay seller. Thanks!

I am not sure if I will violate the rule to publish the seller here :p

I always buy from the seller in ebay called "Filter Plaza". Please try to search around it in google or yahoo and you should able to find him

Yes, remember, kenko = Hoya. Kenko will sell only in local japan, so only asian people (like china or hong kong) could able to get it mostly without having a huge transportation cost.

My CPL didn't leave my 17-55 while I was in Belize, it really helps with the sky/clouds.

I had a CPL pretty much glued to my 17-55 when I had it. Don't have any comparisons without, but man it rocked with it on.

what kind of CPL did you have on? I just bought this one for my 70-300mm
http://www.amazon.com …HOAQ/ref=ox_ya_oh_product (external link)

I'm debating if I should spend a lil more for my 17-55 when I have the money or get the 77mm of that one.

hi rparchen and RyanB,
First of all your photo looks very nice and gorgeous. How can you made the sky so blue and the cloud so white in color? What is the setting to make this.I try before setting the WB to more blue, but this will cause the cloud color to be more in blue. How can u make it?

thanks.

Save yourself some money and get this 77mm Kenko CP for $40. Its the same as the Hoya and the best price you'll find. Very good filter.

Many here and on FM order from this guy. I've been using mine for years.

Here's an example with this filter....

Here is another quick landscape with my 17-55 w/CPL. It didn't leave my lens while driving through Canada.

A good CP is pretty much essential for landscapes.

I wanted to see if the skies really do look better..or would a Nd filter be better?

Also, will circular polarizers help reduce reflections from glass (ie shooting aquariums, etc) or am I mixing this up with a different filter?

Please keep in mind how dark aquariums tend to be and that most CPL's will cost you 1-2 stops of light (meaning 2-4x longer shutter speeds) which could make aquariums even harder to shoot. Possibly a better solution would be to use a rubber hood pressed right up to the glass to cut out the reflections first.

I'm off lining my cage with newspaper.
