Noobs... S5is and 40D Pics...

I am an almost 16 year old from Southern California
These pics are from Various times and places
My dad got me my first new camera, a S5is for my middle school graduation. Since then, I have taken off shooting people, things, and pets. He recently gave me his 20D, and I have not been able to put it down

Too many pictures to comment on... which ones specifically are you looking for critique on?

In the first group they are all treasures except for the waterfall, which has blown out highlights. It's just way overexposed.

Incidently, the noise level is unbelievably high in the first two B&W shots.

In the turbine intake shot the focus should have been on the hub, whereas it seems to be somewhere aft of that.

In the second group the first shot is also overexposed and rendered too bright here.

For a teen-ager you are doing great.

I agree with the bold, there are a lot of really cool shots in the first post you made seamaster. I am very impressed with the B&W shots however. They are pretty neat and though there is a lot of noise, I feel that the shots still please the eye.

I agree with the waterfall shot. Just try, try again, and use a slower shutter speed. And if you enjoy doing landscape photos, I would suggest investing in a circular polarizer filter. It will boost your skies and enhance water.

Your Himalayan looks just like my Siamese-Himalayan cat!! (^_^)

I meant to make the noise level high so there is high drama and a gritty effect. I agree on the waterfall shots... I first met SEV here, who introduced me to the board.
I just want to be critiqued on my work.

Well there are too many shots to comment on here.

But the first shot has that old photo effect, except the skyrises in the back ground give it away.

The engine shots is ehhh. Nothing really special going on.

The BMW shot is cool. Looks like it was taken with the Canon 85 f1.2L I like the minature scale look although it is a model car I still dig the shot.

The engine room shot is just a snap shot in a way.

The cat shot is cute but it looks oof, not in focus. A higher shutter speed was needed 1/6th is way too slow for a hand held still shot.

The bee and flower shot needs to be cropped to bring the subject closer. It looks sharp enough to give it a little heavy crop.

As for the waterfall shot, tripod my friend along with a slower shutter speed. Also a ND filter would be usefull. Try shooting when the sun is not in from of you and more behind you so that the sky is not blown out.

As fir both the Great Blue Heron (GBH) shots 85mm is way to wide, next time use your 75-300 and zoom in on him. Here is a shot I took of him the other day with the 500mm.
