For this week's Macro DSLR Speed Challenge the topic is:
"Damage"

Damage comes in many forms and from many causes... power surges, fire, corrosion, unintentional impacts of objects, and many more. Take this opportunity to show us a macro shot of some kind of damage to an object.

Let's see your "damaged goods"! :)

(I admit this was partially inspired by a friend's computer's recent encounter with a lightening strike. I still have to shoot those shots for him.)

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN! :)

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 8:00 PM Eastern Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Thanks for being the first, John!

I hope this challenge isn't too hard of an idea. Surely you folks either have a macro of something broken, burned, rusted, or...? Get creative out there!

Yes, this is another shameless plug for entries!

It was found in my Grandfather's old army trunk . . . it must have long ago been on someone's necklace.

The deadline has been extended until 8:00pm EST today. A friend just came home from the hospital after surgery, and we're taking him dinner.

(I didn't want anyone waiting with baited breath if I couldn't post winners right after 6pm.) :)

Thanks for those who participated in this week's challenge. There weren't quite as many entries as I'd hoped, but that's OK too.

John_B and "Sun Thru" - Interesting take on the topic. I liked the creative and unique approach on the idea, and as usual, you have a nicely done shot. The texture and color on the leaf is great and the "damage" circle contrasts nicely with it. Great job of getting just enough sun coming through the hole.

Daniel2000 and "Glass wings" - I liked the abstractness and the detail of the shot. Broken glass can certainly have some interesting patterns, and you captured one nicely here. However I find my eye getting drawn away from the glass to the white (reflected light?) at the bottom.

monty28428 and "Fallen Frame" - I'm glad your cat helped with the contribution to the challenge but sorry it was at the expense of your frame! I can't count how many things my critters have broken. For some reason, the break reminds me of a fault line, and I'd be interested in seeing more of that frame. The blue part reminds me of a crayon. :)

fyrefoto and "Corrosion" - That was a spoon? The first couple of times I looked at the shot, I thought the blue were raised areas. Then I realized they were slots, and a blue background was showing. Doh! I'm glad that spoon isn't in service now! Nice job of capturing the corrosion on it, and I like the contrasting colors in the shot (once my eyes "got it").:) You've got a good eye for macro, Candy!

tomy and "Holy Coin" - That's an interesting coin. What kind is it? Is that Spanish or Italian? I can gather what it says but am curious about the origin. That lone hole in the middle is interesting, and your shot is well done. I like what it's sitting on and the slight reflection. It's nicely lit and in sharp focus.

Picking one is tough, but this time I am going to pick just one since we only had 5 entries. I'm giving this one to tomy and "Holy Coin". Congratulations and a nice shot! Thanks again to everyone else for participating!

Congrats Tomy!!

Nice go at it everybody -- I was quite impressed with John_B's entry and really liked the sun peaking through the damaged leaf!

Candy -- I think some of my spoons may look that way and are still in service :-)

A bigger view Lisa -- not quite a crayon...

Nice work Tomy. What an interesting coin with an interesting history even if we don't know exactly how that hole got there. I googled Alfonso XII and he was King of Spain in the mid to late 1800's, so that's a Spanish coin although it might have been minted in various other places owned by the Spanish at the time, such as the Philippines (based on a quick search for coins with Alfonso XII on them).

I was busy for most of this week and didn't get a chance to find a good subject for this one. Good job guys and I hope to participate next week.
