I picked up a EC-CIV screen with tool from B&H.

I however, can't remove the currently installed EC-CIII that is in my camera. the focusing tool won't grip the tab and remove it.

is there a method to this madness? I had the camera powered off. popped the screen down with the tool but thats it. it won't budge.

Is there a release mechanism to remove the screen from the holder?
Am I using the wrong tool?

Have you "released and dropped" the carrier? In other words (using the tool that came with the new screen), you need to first slightly raise the tabs that hold the carrier "high", so that the carrier drops down and you can see the whole screen within its metal frame, and then use the grip tool to grip the tab of the screen and lift it out.

There's a YouTube video showing the process.

yeah I've done that. see how easy his lifts out after it drops.
mine feels very stuck. the screen tool just slips right off when I pull on it.

I followed his video and several others I found and get the same result...
