How to know shutter counts?

Hi, I'm selling my 5DMKII and lots of people want to know about the shutter counts, Anyone can show me how?

There's no easy way, just estimate it.

The camera's hardly going to be old enough to be anywhere near the average failure rate for a shutter anyway, so the question is somewhat meaningless...

I thought it was the same as what your image ID was (IMG XXXX) uless you specifically reset it? I am guessing there a bit. I found a piece of software on the web to use on my 40D to verify it. YRMV

So in other words shutter counts = amount of pics taken?

According to the specs here - http://blog.planet5d.c​om/548 (external link) - the free software listed might get you the exact shutter count. It works perfectly for my 50D.

Taking image numbers from CF cards is very error prone and I wouldnt trust an image number as an accurate reflection of shutter count. For starters, when you get to image 9999 the count starts back at 0001 again.

EDIT - CAUTION - I just noticed the big red warning at the top of the page. That wasn't there a couple of days ago when I downloaded and installed. Nothing got flagged by NOD32.
