I can not believe how many people are now shooting paintball events, when I started almost 10 years ago there were very few of us and now at every event I go to I see several new paintball photographers, at the last USPL event the number of new photographers was amazing.

What I find even more amazing is how few of these new paintball photographers are willing to try to shoot scenario paintball which IMO is much harder but more rewarding.
In scenario paintball there are no sidelines, no well worn paths to the same bunkers where you can get the typical repetitive photos that we have all taken too many of.

My advice to all the new and upcoming paintball photographers is to shoot a scenario event, it will force you to become involved with the game and allow you the freedom to develop some very original and creative shots.

There are from a recent Ultimate Woodsball Tournament at SC Village in Southern California which I shot for Jungle Magazine. There were several pro players at the event; the first image is of Dave Baines. As usual I was the only photographer there…

Great shots Gary. Nice to see those autocockers still gong strong, never see those on a speedball field anymore.

Awesome photos Gary! I wish I took your recommendation and made it out. Dare I say that I'll keep my eyes out for the next "scenario" event?

Haha, I like how some of the guys are using the old school cockers and revo hoppers and then there's the guy with the Geo and Dye Rotor. Just an ex-player's observation.

Nice shots though. How many times you get hit during the shoot, lol? Hopefully the camera equipment was spared from being hit with the nasty concoction known as the modern paintball...

It figures once again I play on Sunday and Gary is not there! Great job Gary and I totally agree it is a lot harder to shoot (just wish I had the time for everything).

I played on Infamous and we won the open division, I had the best time ever playing at that event (30 minute games are way long!)

Yes I agree it’s Dave Banes who plays for Russian Legion, Dynasty and Oakland Blast. He is also in picture #6

Here you go Jimmy, Splats are much harder to get in scenario paintball, and you have to be really good to get them.

At this event I was not really trying to get splats, I was more after the player in the brush type pictures for Jungle

Hi Robbo, good to see you here on POTN…the Woodsball Tournament League has an event this Saturday at CPP. Take a look at http://www.woodsballtournament.com/ (external link)
Shooting scenario will make you a better paintball photographer. I am shooting the event again for Jungle Magazine, see you there? Let me know

Since there are no sidelines and you have to go in to the middle of the firefights you tend to get hit a lot….nothing that the usual trip to the Canon service center can’t fix….they know me now by my first name and thank god for CPS

If I only knew you were playing I would have come out and photographed the UWL event on Sunday

Here are a few more

To quote Gary (as accurately as I can remember) when speaking about getting his camera shot while taking photos of paintball:

“A camera to a photographer is a tool used to do his job. When you dig a ditch, you use a shovel. It’s going to get banged up and dirty. If it breaks… you buy a new one!”

Gary, YOU can just get out and buy a new one! Lol.

BTW, I LOVE THIS Photo (below):
