drop in circular polarisors which one for the 300 f2.8

Do i need the 48 or the 52mm drop in filter for the 300mm f2.8??

The 300/2.8 takes a 48mm drop-in whilst the 300/2.8 IS takes the 52mm. I assume you mean the IS version but better to be safe.

After you've splashed out on the 300 2.8 there's so little cash left that everything seems expensive!

its not expensive in the grand scheme of things but the fact that I will only use it 2 or three times a year effectively decreases the return on expense.
