For those of you that pack your camera gear in daypacks, or other large bags for hiking. Can I see some pictures of how you have outfitted said bag to carry your camera gear snugly? Thanks! ;)

ugh, I was hoping you had a link to someone who could make some rad custom packs....

anyway, I've been using a tenba messenger insert in my small packs for daily use:

but for backpacking, I currently use a lowepro Top load zoom in front and my pack in back:

that gives you instant access to your camera w/o removing a pack which is crucial. You can add lens cases to your waist belt as well. I'm also toying with the idea of using my Boda in the same fashion. You can use the chest strap setup they include, but you can also rig your own strap/clips so the bag is attaches in place of your sternum strap which makes it the ideal setup. The other option is a cotton carrier (external link)type setup (something I'll be ordering as soon as they're in stock again) but then your camera is exposed, and when backpacking that only takes care of 1 camera/body realistically, you'll still need lens cases on your belt.

hopefully one of those ideas works for you. I'm pretty active and ALWAYS have my camera with me so I've tried a lot of different options. The chest bag, either on it's own harness or strapped in as a sternum is what I've used the most. Mine fits either 1 large tele on body or 2 medium zooms (standard and wide). I then put the other in the pack, but that's why I've been playing with the boda as it would hold all 3 of my zooms (it does, I just haven't used it hiking yet).

For a few weeks last month i was using a Domke DSLR insert in an REI Lookout 40 pack with a flap over the gear (attached to the insert's velcro) so that I could put everything else on top without harming the gear.

Worked well, but I had to return the pack because the frame was too small for me :(

Do you have pictures? I'm having a hard time seeing an SLR in there. :\
