Apparently there's a whole new group of people complaining about video now that the 7D is out. It's here to stay, kids.

I was in and out of video before getting into photography. Now that I have an full HD videocam, I found that it is much difficult than photography and requires more effort. Suddenly, there is this adrenaline rush just like when I discover photography 3 years ago....

Looking at 5dmk2 and 7D video is like looking at a photo shot by large format camera. It is very very good and I wonder why didn't they do it earlier.... at least before I bought my 450D or 1Dmk2.....

After a while, learning on how to make better video, I realize DSLR has all the right tools to make high quality videos. A great body with L lenses. Large sensor and great low light capability. No consumer HD video cam can fight those. And these features already there without additional cost.

Handling is easy... Buy a cheap monopod and there you go. A good video almost never have a clip more than 30s. The only difficulty that I can think of is tracking a high speed sport car.... Normal video is just a piece of cake. Just search video in youtube and vimeo. With some video making skills, the result is spectacular.

7D, 450D, EF17-40L, EF70-200/2.8L IS, 580EX, 550EX,..... Benro C-427 CF Tripod, Markin M10 Ballhead;

With all these gears, my photos still suck

There are elitists in all groups, when makers like Canon and Nikon put video into a DSLR it sort of blurred that imaginary line that the elitist believed separated them from all others.

I for a hobby also fly Radio Controlled Helicopters, 'back in the day' they were all powered by motors requiring liquid fuel. Electric helicopters were unheard of, when they did come on the scene many who flew the gas birds complained that they were " toys, junk ". Some just sat and watched as the Electric RC Heli evolved. Amazing that today I can do with an electric RC heli everything I did in the past except for the real heavy lifting of video and TV transmitting gear. But that is changing. Still there are those who complain about makers putting electric TOY motors in an RC Helicopter, what do they think they are flying if not toys in reality.

Even in the Motorcycle world there are Harley owners who complain about Harley marketing the V-Rod because well ... it was not 100% designed by Harley Davidson, these elitists believe a motorcycle can only be powered by an air cold V-Twin designed and built by the illustrious motor company or moco as they fondly call Harley Davidson. Let's not even mention to the average Harley Koo-Aid drinker that a motorcycle built by any other company isn't a real motorcycle but a stolen idea, that was stolen from Harley as if Harley was the original designer and builder of American motorcycles. Indian did it first and Harley stole Indians idea! :p

I have given examples of 'elitists' and really that may be the wrong name. I should have referred to them as dinosaurs, refusing to evolve and stuck in the past. Well we all know how that attitude worked for the dinosaurs! :lol:

Yeah you are right, video is here to stay and look for it to be refined over time because some refinements are easy to toss in.

I remember the Manual Focus purists complaining about the introduction of Auto Focus in the late 1980's.

I am sure these types also complained about Through The Lens metering and Auto Exposure back in the 1960's.

I really like having video. I only wish I was better at shooting it, and I knew anything about video editing. All in due time.

All the ones that complained in the 1960's have died off by now. A whole new generation of whiners has risen. ;)
