So, this is happening more often now. I don't shoot the 40D for a day or so, and the first time I trip the shutter it locks up. From the sound it makes, seems like it brings the mirror up, and starts to close down the aperture, then it shuts down - nothing on the LCD screen(s). I pop out the battery, replace it and it does the same thing again. The odd bit is that after about 6/7 battery pop-outs, it starts function normally.

Things I've deduced:
It will do the same thing with my 17-40, 50mm and the 11-18 lens on.
It functions perfectly without a lens on.
Changes to aperture or shutter speed have no effect.
Both Canon batteries are fully charged.

Could it be the batteries are starting to die? the contacts look bright and shiny on both batts and cam body.

Ideas?
