This is my first attempt at shooting any kind of sport. So if anyone has some suggestions or good links to read, I would appreciate it greatly!

It was hard for me to get many in focus, not sure if servo was the best mode to be in...

Both were cropped by maybe 20-30% and used neat image for noise. Minimal time spent on PP, just DPP, contrast, saturation, and sharpness was all I touched.

Shot at 200mm f4 iso800 1/500 Servo mode

Not bad for a first time, they're pretty sharp and they have the beginnings of the sports "pop". AI Servo is most definitely the mode to use, though you'll find that depending on your equipment if you keep it focusing the whole time, it may have a tendancy to "hunt" for focus, and that can leave you looking a little soft. A lot of people here advocate using the * button and C.FN to focus, I personally dont like it, but it seems to work for a lot of others, personal preference though (do a search on here for it)

Technically, the only other thing is that it's a good benchmark to say 1/640s should be a minimum speed, and aperture and ISO to match. Keep the f/stop low (ie. the widest aperture) and it'll keep your backgrounds blurred.

Dont be afraid to crop though! The most common thing with people doing sport for the first time is that people dont crop close enough. Sport is all about getting in and close!

James.
