I have been the primary shooter for several weddings over the past few years and only a couple have I attempted to use both 40D bodies, one with a 18-55 and the other with the 70-200 IS L. I currently only have one flash bracket but today's wedding is in a smaller church and can use flash, which I'd rather not when possible. I'll need to bump up the ISO to 1000 at 2.8 to get anything decent if I don't use flash. I think this venue is just too small to use the 70-200 alone but still need the tight shots like ring on finger shots, etc. and the ceiling is fairly low and is lower from where this shot is taken, sloping up to a higher ceiling height; bouncing the 580exII worked well.

I just wanted to know what other's have done (with two bodies/lenses) in similar situations...it's just a PIA to juggle two cameras switching back and forth.

It's not always necessary to document every single part of the ceremony. Get what you can. If the couple is too far away and lighting is too dim for close up shots, work around that and get the best shots of them with a wider view.

2 of my nieces were married 3 years ago and I don't think I saw a "putting the ring on the finger" shot from either wedding. If you really want that type of shot, it can be easily staged afterwords in a very close up manner.

Put your wider lens on a tripod to get the overall ceremony then handhold with the 70-200 to get the close up shots. I do it all the time...

Hope that helps,
Scott
