Hi guys,

I have the opportunity to get a great deal on a 17-55 right now. The thing is that it was purchased in Australia... comes with receipt and everything. Has warranty for at least 6 more months.

Would I be able to service it here in the States? Any downsides to getting a lens that comes from Australia?

I have to make up my mind quickly about this. Many thanks in advance!

Canon will service it, but don't think it would be covered by the warranty.

Thanks Tim!

So then the only difference between a lens purchased in the States vs everywhere else is the warranty? Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Yup, that is all that is different...is the warranty. Otherwise, the lens itself is identical

That's a really good price. Make sure you're talking USD and make sure the seller is credible.

It's a girl who just moved here from Sydney. Lens comes with everything as well as a receipt from a large chain store.

Does it have an international warranty card?

I always thought that lenses are sold with a 1 year international warranty regardless of puchase country as long as you have a receipt. I belive the camera bodies do not have an international warranty.

If it is servicing you are after, I believe canon will service the lens, you can always pay them for it.

I bought my lenses from B&H in the us and live in the UK never had a problem getting them serviced here though my warranty has long expired.

At that price I wouldn't care, as long as its working and sharp.

Yep, that's how I see it too. I'll have to take my chance with it. I'll just got and test the @%$ (INVALID EMAIL)?! out of it before I buy it.
