One of my most memorable shoots to date.
First I was slowly stalking a butterfly. Like usual as I would get close the butterfly would sense me and fly off to a new spot. I would keep watch and see where it lands then try to crawl close. This time I saw the butterfly land and then flutter to the ground and it looked as though it was stuck in the lower grassy area. I got closer and noticed a wasp had tackled it to the ground. This was all very frantic and happened in a matter of seconds. The wasp first decapitated the butterfly and then proceeded to tear each limb off one at a time. I felt like I wanted to help but it was nature....

He took off all the wings and it seemed he was after the body area. Once he had freed it he flew off a little and proceeded to eat it I assume.

The Aftermath

So needless to say I was kinda discouraged.... so much for a nice butterfly shot.
I continued on. About half hour later in another field. I see what I thought may be a sleeping wasp. I move in for closer inspection. There is one of the biggest most yellow crab spiders I have seen to date.

Lucky for me I had brought my biggest tube. Only the one but this was a perfect opportunity to use it. I fumbled around and managed to get everything back together. Oh crap where did my subject go? After some frantic searching I found him in some foliage.

Wow, the spider shots are really cool :)

I only do careful levels/crop/NR/colorbalance, if needed. Thats just my philosophy, to each his own.
You're welcome to check my photoart (fotokonst in swedish) at http://sebastianfoto.se/ (external link)
Its swedish, but just press the menu at top for cathegories and view the photos.
I have a Canon S3 with two Raynox closeup lenses.

didn't know they took on wasps, most spiders seem to steer clear.

Yes..that is nature....but I like to close my eyes to that part of it...he he
But great shots...if you can stand to watch long enough to shoot it.....that would be my problem...ha ha

Wow. It's all in the timing.
That makes it Wasps 1, Crab spiders 1, Butterflies 0

Nice captures. I normally see spiders falling prey to spider wasps.
