..I have 3 canon bodies.
My 300D takes the BP-511

The 40D & the 5D takes BP-511A.

Is it safe to use the BP-511 on my 40D & 5D???

Are both batteries the same?

Thanks
Mike

im gonna go ahead and say i probably wouldnt put those in the 40D and 5D. They're camera specific for a reason but nobody is stopping you from doing it and letting us know the results.

From what I remember they are the exact same battery except for the fact that the bp-511a has a higher capacity than the bp-511.

Capacity aside, they are the same and work fine with 10 to 50D & 5D among others.

Any BP511 series battery (which is in good condition, of course) will work fine in any of the cameras mentioned above.

You really should be using batteries with a high mAh (milliamp hours) rating as the higher that number is, the longer the charge on the battery will last compared to batteries with lower mAh ratings.

I doubt that Canon would make an incompatible battery in the same shape as an already manufactured one. They usually try to idiot-proof their devices as much as possible by making batteries and attachments in different shapes, sizes, etc.

I'll testify that the 300D batteries will work with the 30D and vice-versa. Capacity isn't quite the same, but it works, as does charging the batteries.

I constantly interchange BP511s between my 40D and 5D...

No Problemo
