Hi all, I've been lurking around here for quite a while, but I think I need help now.

I am looking for a small bag to hold my essentials, that does not look like a camera bag. I am tired of lugging around my backpack and purse, so I'm looking for something that will do for both.

The ideal bag should have these measurements:
inside: 10"(w)x5"(d)x8"(h)
outside maximum: 11"x8"x11" (so that it will fit into my bike basket)

This is what I would like it to hold:

350D gripped with 24-70mm (lens down for easy access). And occasionally maybe also the 70-200mm instead of some other things.

So far I really like the look of the Domke bags (J-5XC in particular), but I'm not sure if that would work with the grip since from what I've read they are kind of small.

I owned a Crumpler previously (Daily S, my first bag, way too small now), but they were too padded for my taste. I also own a Jill-e medium bag, it looks nice but it's too big for daily use.

So basically I am looking for a bag that doubles as a purse, does not look like a camera bag, holds my essentials, and has a side pocket for easy access to my phone, and it really seems like mission impossible.

Do you guys have any suggestions for brands and models I should look into?

Maybe a Tamrac Velocity 7 or 8, probably the 8.

If the jill-e bags are not your style, you might look at the Kata DR-467. It is the size of a standard backpack and will easily carry you camera gear in the lower compartment and the rest of you things in the upper compartment (and it is less than $100). I have this bag and like it fine. I think Kata also sells a slightly smaller backpack that doesn't include the laptop pocket. It would work, as well. http://www.kata-bags.com/index.asp?UP1=OK (external link)

I have settled on the Kata H-16. It fits my Canon 50D +Grip+18-200mm with hood in the centre. The two side pockets can hold another lens or other stuff. I carry a nifty 50 in one side. I've tried it with the 50D and 100-400mm with the Hood reversed and the 18-200mm in the side pocket. When I am travelling, I shove the H-16 inside a Samsonite Backpack on rollers that has a compartment for my lap top.

If you have suggestions for a bag that has a detatchable laptop section please let me know.

Jill-e bags work or get a purse that will work for your camera. I've always said those...crap, what are they called? They sell them in Hallmark and they have floral designs. DIY are popular for this occasion but another great choice is the Crumpler 5MDH. Comes in all kind of colors and is even called a purse sometimes. Check my reviews on it. I love the bag and often use it as a murse when I'm out. I keep my camera out (since I'm taking photos) and keep my keys, g/f's keys, and anything else really.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! :)
So far internet research steered me towards either the Crumpler 5 or 6 MDH, or the Domke F-3x.. so I went down to the camera store to try them all out. And just as I was about to get the 6MDH, I saw the Tamrac Express 7.. and I decided to get that one.
