Hello everyone ,

I have just purchased a mk1 1d with 31k in very good condition. Took a while to find a nice one for the price I could afford and is a nice improvement over my other 30d .

One problem I do have is that my camera , although boxed and containing everything else needed , it did not come with a cable . I belive this to be a firewire cable . What I am asking is where and what cable do I need to get hold of to connect my 1d to my computer .

Also would I be able to update the firmware on my camera using this cable ?

Cheers Jamie .

You need a firewire 400 cable with FW400 connectors at both ends. At least that's the case with my Mac.
Do a search, was much discussed not long ago.

Mine didn't come with a cable either, but I had a standard firewire cable already. I got that from a local computer shop for a few dollars.

This page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1394_interface (external link) has pictures of the plug type. Its the one listed that's kind of pointed at one end.

I don't know about doing firmware upgrades, but I downloaded the Canon software, installed it on XP and was able to view & change the camera settings.

I got this site from someone else here. I needed the 4pin and a 6pins cable and got them in 3 to 4 days after ordering them. Good shooting with your 1D

Cheers Jamie .

Firmware gets updated by
(1) downloading new firmware to PC
(2) Opening file to extract firmware file
(3) Put extracted file on to Compact Flash card via Card reader (recommmended). Put CF card back into camera body.
(4) Camera Menu , select Firmware Update and follow Camera onscreen instructions.

It may also be possible to do the update via the Firewire cable.

Have you got the MK1 manual? You need it. Search for it online and store it on your computer.

Good luck

Guys - its only a 6pin to 6pin cable if that is the type of connection that you have on your PC. Don't make blanket statements. I connect my 1D to my laptop with a 6 pin to 4 pin cable - 4 pin being the connection on my computer.
