Well, we thought it might have been a Portuguese man o war - but it wasn't :-(

It was, however, deep purple...

cyanea lamarckii jellyfish - beached. This one was only little - about 6" or so across (I think). Tide washed it out (thankfully) shortly after I took this so I only managed to get one more photo of it :(
