Hi all,

Unfortunately I have been very stupid and neglected 2 of my lenses, which have now got very minor mould on the outside element. This happened in a tropical country, but I have now re-located back to England.

The mould does not show up in images and is very small right now, my question is, if I now look after them properly, is there a chance it will stop growing, and I can continue to use them as normal.

Or are these lenses destined for an expensive visit to the service centre? I am quite worried and stressed out after finding this mould, so any advice on what to do would be great.

Many thanks

Sean

I don't know the answer, but it might help if you say what lenses are because it's not going to be the same for 500L or 50mm lens.

I would actually be more worried about it spreading to other lenses.

Generally mold needs three things to survive. It needs a warm enviromnent, a moist enironment and a food source. If you clean your lenses throughly to remove the existing mold you shouldn't have any more issues. Just keep them clean and dry.

The mold is on my 70-200 and my 100-400, but the 100-400 sold on ebay just now, so I need not worry about it :)

Well, there is the answer - sell the 70-200 on eBay.

(Note to self--don't buy any 70-200's on ebay for awhile)
