Yesterday I was taking my battery grip off my 30D and the plastic gear striped out on me, now I can't get my grip off and its getting lose. I shoot a lot of rodeos so my camera is in a lot of dust. When I was taking it off it sounded like it had a little dust in there, but I didn't think it would strip out on me

This grip isn't even a year old I got it in December of last year. Do you think canon will warranty this?

Has anyone ever had this happen before?

Canon 30D, 70-200 f/2.8L, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 Lowepro flipside 200.

If it's not even a year old, give canon warranty a shot.

This is one thing I hated about accessory grips: they work their way loose so you keep spinning the knob to make sure it's tightly on. But every time I tightened it, it would feel like it might snap and break. Definitely not in the league of the EOS-3 grips... :(

Yes I stripped mine a while back, I was prepared to live with it, but now its getting loose and I got to thinking that I left the battery in the door stowed in the grip, if it ever got wet by the time I got it off the camera would be toasted..
I have smurfed the wet and found 2 different ways to remove the grip.
1. Use some small pliers and cut the wheel(its hollow) as you would a pizza, you now have acess to the attaching bolt geared head, use a small screwdriver and a RUBBER mallet to spin it out.
2. Slip the screwdriver in at the top of the wheel, and tap bolt out.
Havn't tackled mine yet, Im going to get the replacment part first.
Hope this helps. I have heard that Canon have called this overtightning user error and not covered repair costs, hope they cover it for you.

I just make sure it is snug but not gorilla tight. Not issues yet.
