Just another try at a high key shot...

IMAGE: http://jerryleephotography.zenfolio.com/img/v0/p1026456975-4.jpg

I tried to capture this image with the intent of going high key with it. I'm very aware that it's blown out.
It was meant to be this way. In this image I also wanted to gravitate the viewer to his eyes. I attempted to use the BG falling into his eyes to achieve this. Does this work for you?

Any suggestions or comments are gladly welcomed!

Please let me know how I did.

I really like it..I love high key, I'm not bothered at all that its blown, you're gravitated towards the eyes which look great and that is the intention. I can see it on canvas on the wall :)

High key is not blowing out an image. It's more about knowing your lighting and using it to create a very light image. For me it's just an overexposed image with eyes. I know you said it was intentional it just doesn't work for me.

You're totally right, I just did it the only way I know how.
And personally, I was expecting more comments on that. heh.

Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

There are tons of articles on the net about high key. I have some examples in my galleries. I'm far from an expert on high key. One of my most favorite photogs Jodie Otte gave a great explanation on another forum and provided a beautiful example image. It was light, soft and airy yet you see every detail. I tried to locate a link but I couldn't find it. Check out her gallery she's got a lot of beautiful images. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link another photogs site here so google Jodie Otte and she comes right up.

Thanks Jeni.

I'm not sure about the linking either. I'll try and search for it, unless you want to PM me the link. Much appreciated. I have lots to learn. ;)

Very nice capture of the look on his face!

Thanks for taking the time, poppie guy.

I agree about not necessarily a high-key imag just because it is light. I have images I processed the same way that I, too, love. It is a very nice capture of the boy. That being said, I am not razy that the blown out part goes of the top of his head. Any slight detail to show hair or the top of the head, however slight, would have improved the image to me.

Also, the whites of his Left Eye are far more over exposed than the other eye. I want to be drawn to his eyes (both of them), but once I am, I notice the over processing of that one particular eye. Hope this was constructive!

I agree with some of the others said about being too blown..but isnt that why we automatically make them B&W?! haha.. I like the image though:)
