I already have an f/4IS so it's not like I really need the reach or anything like that.

So don't worry the spring rebates only lasted 1 day anyway before they jacked the prices. If the Mark II comes out soon the best time to buy will be right before your trip. You were smart to wait.

You make a good point, though, about them jacking the price up. It's selling for $1899 (free shipping) at B&H right now. A bargain at half the price. I admit it. Of course, if I didn't listen to the 5DMkII rumors last year I would own a high end Nikon crop body today. Had I done that, I would really be sick about it today. Stealthy Ninja wrote in post #8449970 Right. Myself, I have the money for the 70-200 2.8L IS right now. If I wanted to I could go out and get it tomorrow. But I'm waiting and seeing. Rumours are that Canon will announce something in the next couple of weeks (probably in stores early October) so worth the wait right about now. Plus, if you have the money for it now, the extra wait gives you time to save for the inevitable price increase the mark II will have over the mark I.
