You need to update the Raw drivers in CS2 to handle the large files from the 5DMKII..;) Or you might need CS3.

Canon 5DMKIII - Canon 24-105F/4L

I don't think CS2 will read the .CR2 files straight out of the 5D2. If you want to do that I think you'll need to upgrade to CS4. Or you can convert them to .DNG and then use CS2 to edit.

why would it be different between the 5d and 5d2? larger files?

That is how Adobe makes their money, as new camera comes out the older CS version will drop support for them unless you convert your .CR2 to .DNG

CS3 won't help you. You need CS4 with the latest Adobe Camera Raw or Lightroom 2.4

Each version of Photoshop only supports the cameras that were released while that Photoshop version was current. Like most software companies, Adobe does not continue to invest considerable programmer salaries on development of software they no longer sell.

So to get ACR support for the 5D2, you would have to buy CS4.

Or, if you're going to have to use an external program anyway for conversion, you could use the excellent Canon DPP that came with the camera to convert the raw to TIFF and then edit the TIFF in CS2.

you need CS4 or LR2 if you're going to go adobe. If you don't want to do either of those upgrades, adobe DOES offer a free solution in their DNG conveter. It'll convert any RAW file their current versions support into a DNG file that CS2/CS3 or LR can then open.

or use DPP.
