The video looks great, however there are only a few shots really. I imagine they had quite a hard time getting steady video of interesting subjects. They should have went to a zoo.

I would love to see the 1080p files!

It almost sounded like they were knocking the lens more than anything. It's a lens designed for some specific purposes, not for the everyman (especially not at the prices they are going for these days!)

There was a PBS "Nature" Special on Polar Bears a few years back with Ewan Macgregor hosting,
http://www.pbs.org …gregor/introduction/2384/ (external link)

In the documentary you could clearly see the Canon XL series camera with the 1200mm mounted a number of times.

Consider that = like a 6X "Crop Factor" on that tiny sensor, so the field of view is akin to 35mm and 7,200mm !!!!!!!!

This is what you want to get close ups of a very hungry polar bear!

Just curious, but does this lens get focusing power from the body or does it have a built in battery pack like the big Sigmas?

... From the Body.

re: "SIGMAs" only one of their lenses needs a battery. That huge 200-500mm f/2.8. AKA "SIGZILLA"

As much of a cult classic as this lens is, I'd much rather have the 800mm f/5.6L. Similar image quality, lighter weight and 4-stop IS=win. Not to mention the cost differential...

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.

Watching the guy in the background when he says 2400mm makes me laugh a little. I think his mind exploded the first time he heard that and probably jizzed in his pants a little. I must admit I thought it was cool but i'm not a camera nerd like that guy.

If you're motivated to buy one of these, I saw one sitting in a display case in the B&H used equipment department earlier this week. Here are two semi-sneaked cell phone photos:

You might want to call your credit card company to have your spending limit raised. The lens is priced at $120,000.

Dave, that is in fact the same copy from the video. B&H let Lens Coat borrow it.

If they let me borrow it, I'll make it a coat AND pants.
